Rich (the southern boy) and Marianne (the northern girl living in a southern world) met through a mutual friend and started writing together mid 2013. Their love for creating songs led them on a songwriting retreat in September 2013 (hence the band name) and together on a sun-soaked balcony in the beautiful olive hills of Andalucia, Spain, they penned their track 'I thought you knew'. Despite being told countless times that they should be the ones singing the track, Rich & Marianne ignored all advice and continued to write for other artists together.
Finally, in January 2015, on a mission to make it his 'Yes' year, Rich popped the musical question to Marianne...("will you be my duo partner"), thankfully she said yes and they became the next UK country duo, Retreat!
Taking inspiration from Lady Antebellum and The Shires, their debut EP 'No Need For Conversation' came out on the 23rd July 2017 and incredibly reached number 1 on the UK ITunes country album charts.

"While British country seems to be obsessed with The Shires and Ward Thomas, I would suggest that people look further than the major label acts to bands like Retreat. For me they are head and shoulders above the so-called leaders of the British Country movement and they feel a hell of a lot more authentic" Pip Ellwood Hughes, Entertainment Focus (click here to read the full review)
